The test was one of a series that occurred in early May 2003 as part

area of a Space Shuttle wing during a test at the Southwest Research
Institute in San Antonio, Texas. The July 7 event was one of an ongoing
series of tests being conducted in 2003 as part of the investigation
into the cause of the Space Shuttle Columbia accident. The video shows
the same test from several different angles as the foam penetrates
a Reinforced Carbon-Carbon panel, creating a hole 41 centimeters by
41 centimeters (16 inches by 16 inches).
